Dear Barrington Families and Staff,
After careful consideration, in consultation with School officials, and in-person visits to all our schools, I have made the decision to close school for the remainder of the week.
The biggest concerns are access to sidewalks for students to walk on and the limited visibility at school bus stops.
We know that there are employees that live in places where roads have not yet been plowed and may not be able to make it into school at this time.
This is not an easy decision; we understand the importance of maintaining instructional time for our students, however the safety of our students and staff is our top priority.
I want to commend our custodial staff for the significant time and effort in clearing the snow from our facilities. I want to also thank the Department of Public Works for clearing our parking lots and all roads in the Town of Barrington.
We are working with the Commissioner and the RI Department of Education on making up the days we have missed over the last two storms. The Commissioner will be submitting a request with the RI Council on Elementary and Secondary Education to have Monday and Tuesday waived due to the State of Emergency. We are hoping in the coming days to creatively make up the remaining days missed due to weather circumstances.
All year-round employees should report to work in-person tomorrow.
Thank you for your understanding and I hope you all have a safe and enjoyable weekend.
Sincerely,
Bob Mitchell
Interim Superintendent
