Several members of the BHS football team volunteered as guest readers in Kindergarten classroom at Sowams School. It was so successful, similar events are going to be scheduled at Primrose and Nayatt Schools

Good evening everyone. This is interim superintendent of schools Bob Mitchell. I wanted to let you all know that school will begin on time tomorrow morning. The Public Works Director has reported that all streets are plowed and ready for school buses and parents transporting students. Our facilities team has cleared all school parking lots and sidewalks. Finally, the bus company is ready to transport all students safely to school. Please be cautious. There's lots of snow piled up and driving visibility may be impacted. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Have a good night!

No School Monday for Barrington Public Schools: Weather Update
Dear Barrington Families and Staff,
Due to the forecasted severe winter storm beginning Sunday and continuing into Monday, there will be no school for Barrington Public Schools on Monday, January 26. I want to confirm this now so families can plan accordingly, and I also want to share important context related to our school calendar.
I have received questions about whether a weather-related cancellation on Monday can be waived because BPS provides approximately five additional minutes of instructional time each day. Historically, these additional instruction minutes have allowed the district to account for up to three snow days without needing to make them up at the end of the school year.
However, in order for a district to use those additional instructional minutes in this way, the Rhode Island Department of Education requires that a waiver be submitted during the prior school year. Upon my review, it was determined that our previous district administration did not submit the required waiver by the May 1, 2025 deadline to be eligible for this flexibility during our current 2025–2026 school year.
Over the coming weeks, we will be contacting RIDE to determine whether there is any opportunity to retroactively address this matter, and I will communicate with you about any potential impact on the 2025–2026 school calendar.
As the storm approaches this weekend, I also encourage all families to prioritize safety. Please plan ahead for freezing temperatures, potential power outages, and hazardous travel conditions.
Thank you for your understanding and for your continued partnership. Please stay safe and warm, and check in with your neighbors and loved ones.
Sincerely,
Bob Mitchell, Interim Superintendent

☀️🌈 🧠WISHING OUR COMMUNITY AN ENJOYABLE SUMMER:
It's hard to believe we have finished another school year! Barrington Public Schools had a remarkable year thanks to the hard work and dedication of our students, educators, and staff. Of course, our collective successes would not have been possible without the continued support of our parents, families, and Barrington community members.
During the 2024-2025 school year, impressive teaching and learning took place inside of our classrooms. Our students, staff, and schools were recognized by organizations like the U.S. Department of Education, Rhode Island Department of Education, Rhode Island Interscholastic League, U.S. News and World Report, Niche, College Board, National Science Olympiad, Rhode Island Art Education Association, Rhode Island House of Representatives, Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence, and more! 🏅🎭🧬
Our Eagles also represented our district this year with determination and commendable sportsmanship. Barrington High School and Barrington Middle School athletes won State Championship titles in tennis, cheerleading, swimming, volleyball, unified volleyball, JV volleyball, JV track, and middle school softball! 🎾🏐🏊♀️🤸♀️🥎
Congratulations to our BPS community for a year very well done. We are proud of all that has been accomplished this year and can't wait to see you in the fall. Have a safe and rewarding summer! 😎
