In developing the original school calendar, we made every effort to align the Barrington District Calendar to the Rhode Island School Calendar and our neighboring districts. At that time, districts throughout the state selected either the week of April 10th or the week of April 17th. Since then, districts across the state moved their vacations to the week of April 17th. Not being fully aligned to the statewide vacation posed logistical challenges to our community and staff families.

Last night, Thursday, April 28, 2022, the School Committee approved my recommendation to adjust the 2022-23 District School Calendar. The change to the calendar moves the April vacation week from April 17-21, 2023 to the week of April 10-14, 2023.

In moving vacation week, we lost a day of school. To reach our required 180 school days for students, Wednesday, November 23, 2022will now be an in-person half-day for students. Staff will engage in professional responsibilities to meet their contractual obligations for the remaining hours of the day with the option of in-person or distanced work. Staff will provide a plan to their building administrator for approval.

There were no other additional changes to the calendar.

The approved calendar is posted on the website.
