Dear Barrington Community,

Greetings! I hope you are enjoying the summer thus far. This past Friday was my final day as the Superintendent in my prior district, and today is my first day as your new Superintendent of Schools. I am excited to begin this partnership with the School Committee, staff, and community of Barrington so that we can best empower all of Barrington’s students to thrive and excel. I am a responsive, seasoned leader who looks forward to working with you to honor and build upon this superb school system. I look forward to meeting you in the weeks and months ahead to listen to what you value and love about the district and also to learn about what opportunities there are for continued growth.

Prior to the end of last school year, I spent a number of action-packed days in Barrington, interacting with individual School Committee members, Interim Superintendent Bob Mitchell, Principals and Central Office staff, staff and students at all schools, union representatives, and PTO leaders. I felt a palpable, uplifting can-do spirit and sense of teamwork. I also had the opportunity to meet with the project managers of the once-in-a-generation school construction project and attended the ground-breaking ceremony. I was very impressed with the vision and extraordinary effort that put this plan in motion.

Additional highlights of my visits included a roundtable discussion with an amazing group of BHS graduating seniors. They were bright, mature, and thoughtful as they shared their experiences in the Barrington Schools. They communicated a heartfelt sense of gratitude to the educators who helped them become deep thinkers well-prepared for their journeys ahead. I also enjoyed the BHS girls and boys lacrosse quarterfinal games on their home turf. I am eager to engage with many students as we turn the corner to the new school year ahead, and do my very best to support the excellent work of Barrington’s educators.

As I get settled in this summer, I aim to meet parents and families, the Town Manager, Police Chief, Fire Chief, and the Senior Center and Library staff, along with additional stakeholders. Please stop in and chat with me in the Trustee Room of the Public Library on Monday, 7.27, 9:00-10:30 am; Thursday, 8.6, 2:30-4:00 pm; Monday, 8.17, 4:00-5:00 pm, or Wednesday, 8.19, 6:00-7:30 pm. Feel free to bring children along and encourage them to share their favorite summer reading book with me!

In closing, I look forward to seeing you this summer and at many school events this year. I will post additional Meet & Greet opportunities once school begins.

Sincerely,

Holly Hageman, Superintendent of Schools
