Sowams Gear: Does your child wear the Octoberfest shirt every week? Need some more Sowams gear in your laundry rotation? The PTO is selling some swag! Town Meeting: We have a Town Meeting on Monday afternoon. Mrs. Promades’ class is hosting it. Other classes will present during our Meeting. If your child’s class is presenting, your child’s teacher will let you know. If you are picking your child up after Town Meeting, they will be dismissed at the end of the day. If you do not normally pick your child up from school, you MUST send a note indicating you are doing this. If we do not receive a note, your child will go home their normal way. It is too busy for any last second changes.
Parent Teacher Conferences: As the first trimester is coming to a close, we will have parent conferences on December 8, 2025. Watch for sign up information from your child’s teacher. This is a no school day for K-5 students. Students in grades 6-12 do have school on this day.
Picture Retakes: Picture retake day will be on December 3, 2025. Anyone who was absent on the original picture day and anyone who sends pictures back to school with your child will have a picture taken/retaken. If you did not order previously or if you need to order now, you may go to coffeepond.com to do this.
Sowams Yearbook: It feels like the year is just getting started, but it's already time to think about ordering a yearbook to look back on all the memories your child has made and will make this year! Yearbooks are $23 each - order yours today and cross this task off your to do list! Vacations and Missing School: Just a reminder with the holidays approaching, if you are pulling your child out of school for travel, please let the office know. Missed days for vacations are considered unexcused absences as indicated by the Rhode Island Department of Education. Any work your child misses while on vacation will be put aside for them to complete upon their return.
PTO Fun Friday: This Friday is an opportunity to show off your favorite animal. Do you have a shirt/sweatshirt with your favorite animal on it? Wear it. Do you have colors of your favorite animal? Wear those. Can you draw your favorite animal and pin in on a shirt/sweatshirt? Do that.
School Construction Update: At our December 1, 2025, PTO meeting, Chris Spiegel, project manager, will be discussing the construction projects at Sowams School and across Barrington. The meeting, which is virtual, will take place at 7:00 PM. The link to this meeting will be sent out on the day of the meeting.
Family Coding: Barrington Middle School is hosting a night of family coding on December 9, 2025, from 6:00-7:30. More information may be found here.
