Here’s this week’s Backpack Express filled with a lot of information from our school:
Strep Throat: Just so you are aware, we are seeing an increase in the number of students who have strep throat. Letters have been emailed home from Mrs. Mungovan about this to classrooms who have multiple cases. If your child has a sore throat, we just wanted you to be aware this is going around. If you have specific questions, you may contact Mrs. Mongovan at either mungovans@barringtonschools.org or 401.247.3180.
Kids Heart Challenge: Once again, Sowams School is participating in the American Heart Association’s Kids Heart Challenge (formally Jump Rope for Heart). Students will participate in this program during their PE/Health classes. More information may be found here. If you have specific information, you should reach out to your child’s PE/Health Teacher (Mr. Miller– millerp@barringtonschools.org; Mr. Cauchon– cauchonm@barringtonschools.org.
Barrington Education Foundation (BEF): BEF is a local organization which provides support to our schools through teacher grants and community events. Each month, they put out a newsletter to update the community about the happenings with BEF. You may access the January newsletter here.
School-Wide Community Service Project: From February 12, 2024, through March 8, 2024, Sowams School will be collecting various items for the Izzy Foundation located at Hasbro Children’s Hospital. We will be collecting craft items, new games, new puzzles, and travel-sized hygiene products. Starting on Monday, there will be a box in the foyer of our school for donated items. Kindergarten Registration: Do you have a child or know a Barrington child who will be five years old by September 1, 2024? If so, the child may register for kindergarten for the 2024-2025 school year. Registration is now open for next year’s kindergarten on. How to register and what information is needed to register a child may be found here.
PTO at URI Basketball Game: Sowams PTO is sponsoring a family fun afternoon at a men’s URI basketball game on March 2. Tickets are now on sale with a special price. All of the information may be found here.
