Backpack Express

Good morning,

This week’s Backpack Express is ready for your reading pleasure.

  • Tardy Students:  Just a reminder, school starts at 7:55.  Anyone who arrives after that time is considered tardy to school.  It is important that your child arrives to school on time each day as it is a disruption to the classroom when a child is late, even just a couple minutes.  We do understand that sometimes a child has a doctor’s appointment and has to be late.  There are days when traffic is heavy and students are late due to that but we don’t mark those students late.  Please make it a goal that your child will be in school on time each day.  Drop off begins at 7:30 each morning.

  • Dental Screening:  You should have received an email from Mrs. Mungovan within the past couple weeks letting you know about our upcoming dental screening.  This is a requirement from the state.  However, if your child sees a dentist, your child will not need to be screened.  Please complete this form if your child sees the dentist and does not need to be screened.

  • PTO’s Extended Day:  Registration is now open for PTO's Extended Day! These after school classes will take place from 2:35 pm - 3:35 pm on either Tuesdays or Thursdays for six weeks (between February and April vacations). An informational sheet listing the classes, eligible grades and course descriptions can be found here. Please register using this google form https://forms.gle/5YUsEEg6Yxtd... by Friday, January 26th. Registrations submitted after 1/26/24 will not be included in the lottery. Each child will be placed in one class. Families will be notified of class placement the week of January 29th. Please contact SowamsPTOExtendedDay@gmail.com with any questions.

  • PTO Family Event at Providence Bruins:  The PTO is hosting a family, fun event at the Providence Bruins on Sunday, January 28, 2024, at 3:05 PM.  Information about purchasing tickets may be found here.

  • Volunteers:  Do you want to become a BPS Partner in Learning?  Find out more information here from our district’s Volunteer Coordinator, Anita Dimatteo.

  • Kindergarten Registration:  Do you have a child or know a Barrington child who will be five years old by September 1, 2024?  If so, the child may register for kindergarten for the 2024-2025 school year.  Registration will open for next year’s kindergarten on Monday, February 5, 2024.  How to register and what information is needed to register a child may be found here.

  • District Strategic Planning:  The Barrington Public Schools is in the beginning stages of writing a new strategic plan.  Your input is important to this process.  There is a PreK-5 parent meeting tonight at 6:30 at the Barrington Middle School.  This will allow you to provide input on what you think is important in our schools are we embark on a new plan for our district.

  • Community Notice:  There is one community notice from East Bay Lacrosse.

Have a wonderful day!

Best,

Jim Callahan
