Primrose Pandas are Respectful, Responsible and Safe

Mission: Barrington Public School’s mission is to empower all students to excel in character, citizenship, collaboration, creativity, communication, and critical thinking, so that they may positively impact the future.

Vision: Together we inspire, learn, love and grow.

Dear Primrose Families,

Happy 100th day of school! Love to see how our students are 100 days smarter, 100 days kinder, and 100 days more connected here at school. I am so proud of our first 100 days together and to see our students grow and learn together. We have much more to do and to experience together and I appreciate how well you partner with us to support our students. Photos were taken throughout the day of the activities here and will be displayed on our monitor in the lobby. Hopefully when you are here to volunteer or meet with us you can see our pandas in action.

It may be time for the super bowl on Sunday, but here at Primrose, we have spring fever for a new version of March Madness! I am thrilled to share that our librarian Mrs O’Kane has created a fantastic challenge for our school and it is bound to be a slam dunk. I hope that you will give it a full court press and join in on the fun (puns intended). Details are below.

Looking forward to seeing you tonight for the PTO’s Valentine Sweetheart Dance. They have planned some wonderful activities in addition to the DJ for lots of dancing and enjoyment. Special thanks to all of the volunteers and parents planning behind the scenes for this fun family outing. Doors open at 6:00 at the BHS for the cafeteria.

Educationally yours,

Coleen Smith

We are continuing our character focus for February on Friendship. Just a bit of food for thought from writer Maggie Wooll

What are the qualities of a good friend? You’ve probably had a lot of amazing — and not so amazing — friends over the years. Knowing what made the great ones stand out from the rest can help you choose the right friends going forward.  Friendships make life more meaningful and are good for our health. Great friends offer emotional support and make us feel loved and connected. These are critical elements of our mental and social wellbeing. That’s why it’s so important to choose our friends wisely and treat them well.

March Madness is taking over for the rest of the year!

We're excited to launch Paddy's Tournament of Books next week to celebrate our love of reading at Primrose Hill School. Each week, from February 13th until Reading Week in June, two books will face off in a head-to-head challenge. We invite families to participate each week by viewing the video read alouds shared in Mrs. Smith's newsletter at home. Each family member (adults and kids, both!) can vote on their favorites to move forward in the bracket.

If you'd like to keep track of your personal bracket, print it out to play along: https://drive.google.com/file/d/18iXIUaV_HbTH5uchFfVPPGAOyKlvqQLM/view?usp=share_link

The Final 4 will be purchased for our library shelves and the winner will receive the coveted Primrose Paddy Award Medal. Jump start a reading habit for your whole family by participating in the vote each week! Our first match up is below. Game on!

Kindergarten Registration-Do you have a child turning five on or before September 1, 2023?  Do you have Barrington friends who have a child turning five on or before September 1, 2023?  If so, these children are eligible for kindergarten for the 2023-2024 school year.  (These students will be considered the class of 2036)  We will start kindergarten registration on February 6, 2023.

Kindergarten registration is an online process.  All of the paperwork is completed online and you need to upload certain documents.  Documents to upload include the following:

  • your child’s birth certificate or passport

  • immunization records

  • proof of residency (for example:  two utility bills or recorded deed or rental/lease agreement).

All of the registration information may be found on our district’s student registration page.  If you are a current family in our school district, you will need to know your Aspen username and password.  If you do not have this information, you should email x2help@barringtonschools.org for assistance.  We do not have this information at our school.

If your child is in the Primrose Hill PreSchool program, you still must complete the registration process. Please feel free to contact me If you have any questions. Welcome class of 2036!

Chartwells Lunch: Just a reminder to double check your email accounts to see if you have received any payment requests from "BPS Chartwells" <chartwells@barringtonschools.org> Emails are generated weekly to notify parents if they have an outstanding balance on their family's school meal account.

If you have received one, please make an online payment or send in money to clear the balance on the accounts as soon as possible. We want to avoid having any of our families accumulating negative balances for the meal accounts. If you have any questions about your child's account, please feel free to reach out by email to Chartwells@barringtonschools.org. Please note that there is no free milk program. Milk can be purchased for $0.55 each day, with parent permission. Milk is included in a meal purchase.
