Dear Primrose Families, Congratulations to our third grade students who participated in the RICAS ELA assessment this week. As you know, our instruction and work within the classrooms is guided by the Common Core Frameworks and this assessment gives our students the opportunity to show what they know, understand and can do. Students and teachers throughout the school showed their support by lining the halls with posters and messages of support. We will be participating in the Math sessions on May 16th and 17th. I have no doubt our students will continue to do their best, which of course, is our goal for all of our assessments and everything we do with them. 
 
Here are just a few of the signs that were posted in the halls! “Volunteers don’t necessarily have the time, they just have the heart”-Elizabeth Andrew This week we celebrated the wonderful volunteers that we have here at school and throughout the district. It truly takes a village and we have an incredible amount of support to help us shine. Whether you volunteer with the PTO, the lunch and recess duties, within our classrooms, library, committees or beyond, your time, talent and input is such an asset and we are grateful for all you do for us. Special thanks to Anita Dimatteo for all her work throughout the year with our volunteers and for the beautiful breakfast that she organized this week. In honor of Eid al-Fitr there is no school tomorrow. This year’s Eid al-Fitr— a widely celebrated Muslim festival, will be on April 21st. Based on the lunar calendar, Eid al-Fitr is commemorated after the end of the Holy month of Ramadan when Muslims fast from sunrise till sunset, thus, Eid al-Fitr is also known as the ‘Festival of Breaking Fast.’ Many people observe the festival by visiting friends and family, exchanging gifts, and making special food and sweets that are synonymous with the festival itself. In many South Asian countries like Pakistan and India, elders of the community give gifts of money to the children, which are known as ‘Eidi.’ Other religious traditions also see Muslims going for special morning prayer on the day of Eid. Once the prayer ends, all Muslims in the congregation, be it a stranger or friend, exchange Eid greetings by hugging each other. Here is a video where you may find some more information about Eid al-Fitr. (Thank you for sharing, Ms. Saeed!)  Our Green Squad will be celebrating Earth Day on Friday with a campus clean-up. Again, that village focus comes to mind on how it takes all of us to make a difference and every effort matters. Afterschool Enrichment-Thank you to the coordinators, teachers and volunteers who made our after school enrichment program so positive and engaging. Our second session is beginning and we have many participants and volunteers who are helping to make it happen. If your child is participating, please be sure to remind them in the morning of their schedule change. I know it helps them to feel more secure of the plan while they are here at school. |
The University of Connecticut won the title in the nation for March Madness on the basketball courts, but we are still in full swing here at school trying to determine the winning book in our challenge! Thank you for your continued participation in our Tournament of Books. We've reached the Elite Eight round of our Book Bracket so we will begin matchups of the titles that won their first competition. Elite Eight VERSUS Blue: A History of the Color as Deep as the Sea and as Wide as the Sky: Consider the plot, characters, theme, and illustrations to help you choose your favorite! The Barrington Youth Field Hockey League is back! Players grades K-5 are welcomed and encouraged to sign up. The league will be held on the following Sundays from 3:30-4PM: April 30, May 7, May 14, and May 21. The cost is $65 per player (with scholarships available*) which includes a new ball for each player. Spread the word! Thank you and we hope to see your player on April 30!! |
