What is New at BMS!

(note: the following information is new)

Parent Learning Walk:

Dr. Anderson will be hosting several “Family Learning Walks” throughout the year to provide an opportunity for families to see Project Based Learning in action and to get a glimpse of the life of a BMS student. Our first visit is scheduled for Monday, October 17, 2022. Register for this and other Parent Learning Walk dates on this form.  We will need to limit it to 20 parents, and it will be a first come, first served basis. Please note, this visit is not to your child’s classroom, but rather to see teaching and learning happening throughout the school.

BMS Unified Theater:

Unified Theater is coming to BMS!  In Unified Theater, young people with all abilities come together as equals to put on a production. The production is entirely organized, written, and directed by the students themselves. The concept is simple: empower youth to lead, let creativity rule, and put the Spotlight on Ability.  All students are welcome!

  • Sign-ups start 10/17

  • Please Email Ms. Germano at: Germanom@barringtonschools.org if you are interested!

  • Our first meeting will be on 11/1 at 3:20 pm - 4:45 pm

Media Center Update:

Please see a link to our BMS Library September newsletter

Rhode Island Student Assistance Services October Newsletter:

Click here for the RISAS October Newsletter which includes information on practical tips for parents talking to kids about alcohol, Red Ribbon Week in support of substance prevention education & advocacy, and Drug Take Back Day on October 22, 2022.

Principal Coffee Hour:

I would like to invite you to this month’s Principal Coffee Hour on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 from 7:30 am to 8:30 am in our school’s Professional Development room. Principal’s Coffee Hour provides families an opportunity to meet with me to discuss a number of school related topics. The first half hour I will have a topic that I will prepare to discuss, and the second half hour will be an open agenda item. I do ask that topics discussed need to be general and not about specific incidents.

BMS Yearbook - 8th Grade Baby Pictures:

It’s tradition!  See how much the 8th graders have grown! Each year we have pages in the yearbook dedicated to 8th grade baby/toddler pictures and it’s always fun to see how far they’ve come.  Please complete this form and upload your child's baby/toddler photo directly. To avoid confusion, please ensure only one photo is uploaded per student.

PLEASE NOTE: You need to be signed into your or your child's gmail account. If not, you will not be able to upload the photo.

CoffeePond Picture Day Follow-up:

Picture Day on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 went very smoothly.  Picture packages are expected to be delivered to BMS in about 4 to 6 weeks.  Picture retake day will be on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 if you'd like to have your student's picture redone (or if they were absent on September 28).  Please send in your picture package with your student on that day.

If you have any questions about ordering, reordering or just in general, please contact CoffeePond directly at 800-632-2323, extension 0 or email lifeguards@coffeepond.com.  We cannot accept paper orders in school any longer but it is not too late to order.  Contact CoffeePond at the numbers above.

Drop-off/Pick-up Instructions:

If you choose to drop-off and pick-up your student from BMS, please see this map for directions.  Please note that the last early dismissal of the day is at 2:45 pm.

Early Pick-Up Reminders:

Notes or emails to bmsattendance@barringtonschools.org are needed every time you need to dismiss your student prior to the end of school.  Middle School level students are not allowed to bike home, even with permission by note.  ID and a physical presence is required to dismiss your student early.  Please click here for full details about dismissing your student early from school.

PTO Corner:

Welcome to the new school year from the BMS PTO! We are excited for the new year and a return to many of the events and activities that have been missed over the past couple of years. Here are a few PTO updates to start off the year:

  • Join the PTO: Become a member of the BMS PTO for $20 through our BMS online store. Proceeds go directly to the school and PTO programs and membership is required to vote at PTO meetings.

  • Volunteers needed: We are in great need of volunteers for the board (President, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary) and committees (Book Fair, Hospitality, Fundraising, One Amazing Night, Variety Show, 8th Grade Celebration). Please email barringtonmiddlepto@gmail.com if interested or with any questions with no pressure to commit.
