School Cancellations:

The easiest way to know if our students are virtual or at-home on a snow day is to receive a notice from the Superintendent via the RI Broadcasters Association.  If you sign up for this, you will receive a text message letting you know in-person school is canceled.  The text will let you know if students will Zoom with their teacher and classmates or if they will work on their at-home packets. To sign up for this, go to the RI Broadcasters Association website.

Barrington Middle School Family Satisfaction Survey:

Last week you received the Studer Family Satisfaction survey from Mr. Messore's office. This year our School Improvement goal is to increase our overall score on the Family Satisfaction Survey from 4.04 to 4.14. We really value your feedback and would greatly appreciate it if everyone could spend a few moments completing the survey. It is important to note that your feedback on the first set of questions is solely based on BMS/BMS Administration. Below are a few items we put in place over the past year, based on last year’s results/feedback:

  • Continue to streamline/improve our weekly Connected Learning Newsletters highlighting news/information from Barrington Middle School.

  • Weekly BMS Fast Five Audio Blog

  • Daily morning announcements posted online.

  • Daily events/calendar posted online.

  • Each trimester teachers sending home 10 positive notes from school.

  • Frequent posts on social media (Facebook, Twitter, #bmsshines).

  • Providing enrichment opportunities for students to participate in to enhance opportunities to connect with peers.

  • 8th-grade transition process (families)

  • Teacher feedback to students on assignments

  • Students have been engaging in RULER lessons- developed the Charter in FAST and accessing the Mood Meter

  • Implementation of our Best Buddies Chapter to promote inclusivity throughout our learning community. Scheduled monthly activities for our general membership as well as ongoing campaigns to create an inclusive environment where all feel they belong.

Thank you again for all that you do and for taking the time to complete the survey. Your feedback means a lot to us and we will always continue to work hard to make BMS the best place possible!

Student Daily Attestation Weekly Reminder:

This is just a weekly reminder that you must screen your child for temperature, other symptoms, and risk factors for COVID-19 each day before sending them to the bus or building.

  • If the student has any signs of illness or risk factors, they will remain at home, and the parent/guardian will contact the school nurse.

  • Barrington Public Schools requires you to use the Student attestation form daily to screen your child.

Change from Distance Learning to In-Person Learning:

We ask that if you decide to switch learning models, that you continue to email me but I also request that you complete linked form: Student Learning Model Change Request

In-Person Participating in Distance Learning:

An in-person student should only be participating in distance learning under three conditions.

  • The first condition is your child is sick and not able to come to school in-person but is still able to participate in class.

  • The second condition is if your child is quarantined due to a household member having Covid-19 symptoms or has tested positive for Covid-19.

  • The third condition is if your child is required to quarantine per RIDOH guidelines.

Distance learning should not be used as a tool for your child not to come to school for reasons other than listed above.  If your child fits one of the three conditions above, please call the school to notify them of the circumstance, and it is also recommended to email the teachers before the start of the school day so they can make sure they are prepared for an additional distance learning student. If your child does not fit into one of the three conditions above, the teachers will not let them into their Zoom class.
