Book Delivery Today

May 10, 2020

Dear HMS Students and Families,

We hope you are all well. As you know, schools in Rhode Island will be closed until June 18 with distance learning continuing until the end of the school year. To continue ELA instruction, we need to provide our fourth grade students with the text Through My Eyes by Ruby Bridges .

Over the next few days, beginning on Monday, May 11th, district bus drivers will drop books off at each of your homes to support our ELA program. Please note the precautions taken in preparing the books for your children:

Preparation:

  • Books have been stored at HMS for nearly 6 weeks without any human contact.

  • Mr. Sangiuliano collected the books  practicing social distancing, wearing a mask, washing his hands, and wearing gloves before handling them.

  • Books were placed into new gallon sealable bags using the same practices by Mrs. Dwyer and Mrs. Levesque.

  • They then placed labels on each bag with the student's name and address.

Delivery:

  • District bus drivers who will deliver the books will collect the books from HMS, where they practiced social distancing and wore masks and gloves.

  • District bus drivers will drop the book(s) in their bags at the student's doorstep based on the address printed on the label (from aspen).

Received:

  • When receiving your book(s), please do not greet the district bus drivers. It is essential to continue to practice social distancing.

  • Do not handle the bag right away.

  • When you do handle the bag, dispose of the bag right away.

  • Spray/wipe books with a chemical known to kill COVID-19.

  • After you have thrown the bag away and sprayed/wiped the book, wash your hands with soap/water for at least 20 seconds.

  • Below are additional resources/information on what to do when you receive a package:

I want to thank the many people for making this book distribution happen in these extraordinary times. Thank you, Mr. Messore and Dr. Dillon, for granting us permission to prepare and deliver the books.  Thank you, Hampden Meadows teachers, for working together to provide our students with instruction that is as close as possible to being in school.  Thank you, Mrs. Dwyer and Mrs. Levesque, for checking the books out to all of the students and placing them in their bags with care.  Thank you, Mrs.Resendes, for preparing the maps/routes for our district drivers and coordinating the delivery. Lastly, thank you, district drivers, who deliver the books to our students.

Sincerely,

Tracey A. McGee, Principal
